A Thrilling Prelude to Le Tour de Gatineau
June 15th was a day of exhilaration and excitement as Hollydays had the pleasure of capturing the British Grand Prix Criterium - a precursor to the upcoming Le Tour de Gatineau in September 2024. This electrifying event featured top cyclists from around the globe, competing as part of the UCI (International Cycling Union).
This year, the British Grand Prix started out with a treat on Friday evening with the screening of an independent movie by our very own Canadian Olympic cyclist, Alison Jackson.
The film, aptly titled "New Roads Uncovered: From the Plains to the Pavé", chronicles Alison's journey, from the flatlands of Alberta to conquering the grueling Paris-Roubaix race, affectionately dubbed the "Hell of the North." Alison’s victory made her the first North American cyclist (of any gender) to clinch this title, and she graced the screening with a Q&A session. Attendees of all ages were captivated and inspired by her stories of perseverance, camaraderie, and the tight-knit international cycling community.

Set against the charming backdrop of the historic Hotel British, the British Grand Prix Criterium was nothing short of spectacular. The races featured 9 competitions showcasing primarily women cyclists of all ages and skill levels. The circuit, with its tricky corners and challenging 16-meter drop and steep climb to the finish, was the perfect stage for these fierce competitors.

The atmosphere was electric, with perfect weather to draw a big crowd and cheer on the talented athletes, watching an edge-of-your-seat race where literally every hundredth of a second counts. The speed and power that these athletes ride with is incontestably astonishing, reflecting the immense dedication and hard work they invest to compete in UCI events worldwide.
Le Tour de Gatineau stands as one of the premier events in North American women's road racing, ranking third highest classification beneath the World Tour. We are beyond excited to document this incredible event alongside the phenomenal athletes, passionate vendors, dedicated volunteers, and enthusiastic spectators.
Stay tuned for more updates as we gear up for a race filled with heart-pounding action and unforgettable moments!
